Early English Newspapers
The Early English Newspapers Collection collects on microfilm English newspaper titles originally published between 1603 and 1860.
The microfilm series combines the library of Dr. Charles Burney, which was acquired by the British Museum in 1818, and the library of John Nicholls, which was acquired by the Bodleian Library in Oxford in 1865.
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Love Library owns 1307 reels of the collection, which is divided into 26 units. These reels are located in the Media Services Collections Area, Love South 201.

The index contains an alphabeticle title listing, a unit-by-unit summary, and a title/reel guide. Individual articles or subjects are not indexed.
The index includes cross-references to title changes that were filmed on other reels.
ContentsThe collections are organized in three ways:
- Long-run newspapers are filmed on discreet reels that are identified by the newspaper title.
- Short-run newspapers that were significant in quanitity but did not warrant individual reels are grouped together. The guide indicates the reel on which the title may be found by identifying the first title on the reel.
- Miscellaneous issues of numerous titles are collected on six reels, labeled A-F.
Scattered issues are missing in the collection.Specific notations identifying those issues can be found in the notes preceding the title on the microfilm.
Other informationThe microforms collection also contains early English books and periodicals, as well as early Italian, French, Spanish, Dutch, Scandinavian, Hispanic and American works.
