Asian Pacific American Heritage MonthMay is Asian Pacific American (APA) Heritage Month. Now on display, The Many Facets of Asian/Pacific American Experience highlights contemporary literature on Asian/Pacific Americans. This display is located on the second floor of Love Library South and online at: http://www.worldcat.org/profiles/joyproberts/lists/70515. This selection of contemporary literature on Asian/Pacific Americans reflects the diverse experience of "Asian/Pacific Americans" or American minorities with heritages in East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Pacific Islands.
In addition, "Japanese American NISEI Students" is an online exhibit promoting the Japanese American/Asian Collections available at the University Archives & Special Collections. This online exhibit highlights documentation of the Japanese American experience in the United States, particularly during World War II.

June 4 Symposium on Willa Cather and her circleWilla Cather's correspondence reveals a lot about her relationships with her family and friends. Learn more about that at "Cather's Circles: Correspondence and Connections," a day-long symposium on June 4 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Memorial Union. The symposium begins at 8:45 a.m.
The event features three paper sessions and two keynotes by Cather biographers and scholars Janis P. Stout and Sharon O’Brien. The event is sponsored by the University Libraries, and the Willa Cather Project, UNL Department of English. There is a $15 registration fee.

Celebrate the Roscoe and Meta Cather CollectionJoin us on June 4 at 5:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of Love Library to celebrate the donation of the Roscoe and Meta Cather Collection.
The program for the event will feature descendents of the Roscoe and Meta Cather family and Dr. Andrew Jewell, editor of the Willa Cather Archive. A reception will follow the presentation.
The event is free and open to the public. RSVP at 402-472-6987.
The Roscoe and Meta Cather Collection, a new donation to Archives & Special Collections, contains hundreds of new letters written by the major American author, Willa Cather, and adds significantly to the department's extensive Cather collections.

Join the Friends of the Libraries of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln as they celebrate the donation of the "Paul Fell Cartoon Collection" to the University Archives and Special Collections on May 8 at 5:00 p.m. The reception will be held in Room 29 of Love Library at 13th and R Streets in Lincoln.
Paul Fell's editorial cartoons appeared in Lincoln newspapers from 1984 to 2007. In 2005, Artizans Syndicate began distributing Fell's cartoons to newspapers throughout North America, and worldwide, online through Artizans.com. The donated collection contains many of the editorial cartoons that appeared in Lincoln newspapers as well as the Omaha Sun and Hastings Tribune. The collection also contains a number of illustrations Fell provided to local, state, and national organizations, businesses, Huskers Illustrated, sketch books and papers as well as comic strips Mulch and Cleo.
At the May 8 event, Paul Fell will talk about the collection and Richard Graham, the University Libraries digital media librarian, will talk about the developing visual arts/graphic arts collection at UNL. On April 17, the Scientific Research Society awarded Paul Royster, Coordinator of Scholarly Communication, the "2008 Outstanding Science Librarian of Nebraska Award" for his work in creating and maintaining the University Libraries Digital Commons and his devotion for promoting science research. The Digital Commons contains more than 23,000 articles, papers, ebooks, documents, presentations, creative activities, master's theses, open-access dissertations produced by UNL faculty, staff, and students - making it the 4 th largest academic institutional repository in the USA. The Digital Commons is searchable by Google, making all this research available free to a world-wide audience.

Make Your Research EasierA pilot program will begin on April 1 to provide electronic copies of articles from journals housed in the LDRF (the Libraries storage facility for lesser used materials) to graduate and undergraduate students. Articles will be scanned and delivered electronically to students via their ILLiad accounts. We scan the article for you. Journal volumes can still be loaned at the users request. Pilot program ends during the summer and will be reviewed for possible continuation in Fall of 2008.

Give Your Favorite Book a "5 Star" RatingYou can now rate your favorite books in the UNL Libraries catalog (http://iris.unl.edu) by logging into the "My Library" service. Log into My Library with your NU ID# and search out your favorite books in the catalog. Mouse over the 5 stars (question marks) that appear beside each title in your list of results and select the star for the rating you want to give the book. Your ratings will appear with other account information when you log into My Library.
The ratings you will see in the catalog will reflect the average rating derived from all reviewers.

Chinese Studies ResourcesThe Libraries are in the process of developing and collecting resources to support UNL's China Initiatives such as the Confucius Institute and the partnership with Xi'an Jiaotong University. The UNL Confucius Institute is a non-profit public institute with a mission of promoting and teaching Chinese language and culture in Lincoln and the surrounding communities. These resources are available through UNL Libraries' Chinese Studies Resources website.

Virtual Architectural Tour of Historic UNLA new website covering close to 100 years of architectural history and development of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln was launched on February 15, 2008 and can be found at: http://historicbuildings.unl.edu/. The site contains images, text, and maps and is broken down into three eras from 1869-1965. More than 60 building descriptions are included as well as biographical sketches of architects, faculty members, donors, regents, and others. Users of the site can also perform a keyword search for terms.
