High School Users Program
WHAT IS THE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM...
Each year the University of Nebraska - Lincoln Libraries offer a program to area high school teachers and media specialists to allow their students to obtain temporary University of Nebraska library cards. This program is provided as a community courtesy to high schools that feel their students would benefit from being able to do research at a major University library.
The guidelines are simple: the students must be sixteen years of age and must have completed and signed a high school user contract agreeing to adhere to all library circulation policies and procedures. The teacher or media specialist connected with the student must also sign this form.
Please note: even if a high school student is over the age of eighteen (and may qualify for a community IRIS permit card) he/she is still under the jurisdiction of this program and the high school involved will still remain responsible for all unpaid library fines accrued prior to the end of the high school academic year.
The High School program is valid from September 1 to May 1 of the following year; students will only be able to use material in-house after May 1. Bound periodicals can not be checked out, and photocopiers are located throughout the library.
STUDENT AGREEMENT FORMS...
All High School Users must have a completed student agreement form on file with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries. These forms are available from the Media Specialist/Librarian at their high school or can be downloaded by clicking on the link below. This student agreement form requires both the signature of the student and the contact person from the high school.
It is the responsibility of the contact person to be sure that the students using the program understand the guidelines involved. The contact person should monitor the return of materials in a timely manner and payment of fines (for overdue, lost, recalled or damaged University Library materials). Love Library will issue electronic notices to the email address provided by the high school contact person if material is overdue or has been recalled.
For groups, the completed student contracts must be mailed to:
Circulation Desk
University of Nebraska Library
High School User Coordinator
University of Nebraska - Lincoln
Lincoln, NE 68588-4102
or faxed to: (402) 472-4225
USER CARDS...
Actual IRIS cards will not be issued. A patron record will be created from the information submitted on the student agreement. Thereafter, a high school user must provide appropriate picture ID when checking out materials.
Please allow five-business days for processing of student agreements sent in for a group or class. We cannot guarantee that patron records can be created for large groups that arrive unexpectedly. Individual students can be accommodated as long as they have their student agreement correctly completed and proper identification when they arrive.
TRAINING SESSIONS AND VISITS...
Library staff offers a basic session on the resources available in the Library. If you are interested in your group receiving a tour, please contact the Circulation Department at: (402) 472-9568.
The high school contact person is responsible for notifying Love Circulation of the date, time of arrival and number of students. Even if you do not request a tour, it is in your best interest to inform us of a pending visit from your school so that additional staff can be available to assist if needed.
ITEMS TO REMEMBER...
Any financial obligation not met by students at the end of the school's academic year becomes the responsibility of the high school and needs to be resolved prior to the next academic year. University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries reserve the right to suspend participation, school or student, in this program.
