Nebraska's Comprehensive Research Library

Reciprocal Borrowing

Reciprocal Borrowing is an alternative to interlibrary loan. The UNL Libraries have Reciprocal Borrowing agreements with other academic libraries in Nebraska and around the country. These programs allow UNL faculty, staff and students to check out materials from other cooperating libraries. One program is sponsored by the Nebraska Library Association, the other by the Research Libraries Advisory Committee of OCLC. Information on both programs is presented below.

Reciprocal Faculty Borrowing Program (OCLC)
Faculty Only

This is a program of the Research Libraries Advisory Committee to OCLC that allows faculty members of participating institutions borrowing privileges and on-site access to the collections of some of the most important research libraries in North America.

For more information, please visit their website at http://www.oclc.org/about/membership/reciprocalborrowing.

Please contact Debra Pearson, Circulation Librarian at Love Library to find out how to participate in this program. Her phone number is (402)472-4260; e-mail her at dpearson1@unl.edu

NLA Reciprocal Borrowing Program
All University Members

This program allows UNL faculty, staff and students to borrow materials from other Nebraska libraries. Directions as well as a listing of the participating libraries can be found below.

WHAT MUST I DO TO PARTICIPATE
  1. Take your UNL ID card with you when visiting another library. This ID will be used to verify your status at UNL so that a separate library card can be issued.
  2. Return all materials by the due date. You are urged to return books directly to the library from which you borrowed them. Over due books must be returned by you, in person, to the lending library.
  3. Assume responsibility for any fines charged by the lending library. Fines owed to another library must be paid directly to that library, not through UNL. The UNL Libraries enforce other libraries' fines in the same way we enforce our own, by placing a hold on circulation privileges, registration and diplomas, if necessary.
  4. Abide by the rules of the lending library. As the guest of another library, you are expected to follow whatever policies and procedures that library may have. Your courtesy is greatly appreciated by all.
