Marshall Olds, Willa Cather Professor and Professor of Modern Languages (Ph.D. Case Western Reserve), 19th-century French literature, Symbolism, modern narrative, and interdisciplinary 19th-century studies. Author and editor of books and articles on Balzac, Flaubert, Mallarmé, and other topics in 19th-century French literature, European literature, relationships between literature and painting, as well as pedagogy. Professor Olds is American correspondant à l'étranger for the Revue d'Histoire Littéraire de la France. He is an adjunct member of the CNRS research group, L'Equipe Flaubert. Professor Olds is a member of the cross-disciplinary graduate program in nineteenth-century studies. He is editor of the foundation journal, Nineteenth-Century French Studies. Recipient of many teaching awards, he founded the departmental study program in Besançon and has been named to distinguished visiting professorships at other institutions.
