Nicole Fouletier-Smith, Professor (Ph.D. Nebraska), holds a French Licence de Lettres classiques (French, Latin, and Greek) from the University of Lyon, France. She has published several literary articles in the French Review, Lettres Romanes, Romance Notes, and others. Her current interests include second language acquisition, and contemporary French Civilization. The third edition of her innovative textbook Paralléles appeared in 2004. She has received college and campus-wide teaching awards, including the prestigious Sorensen Award for Outstanding Teaching, in addition to the French government's Palmes academiques. Professor Smith has served as a Distinguished Visiting Professor of Modern Languages at the Air Force Academy. She has taught the departmental MODL 880 course in Applied Linguistics and Language Methodologies. In the French section, she also teaches French 822, "Topics in French Civilization," and courses in Medieval and Renaissance literature.
