Jesús obtained his PhD
from the University of Nebraska, USA working as a research and curatorial assistant for the University of Nebraska State Museum with Dr. Brett Ratcliffe, and his MSc from Western Kentucky University, USA working as a research assistant with Dr. Keith Philips. Jesús is currently a postdoctoral researcher at Rhodes University, South Africa.
His research interests, in the broad sense, are focused on understanding insect
diversity (especially Cetoniinae) using tools from taxonomy, phylogenetics, biogeography, and ecology.
His current projects involve phylogeographic studies of the South African Cetoniinae as a tool to understand the history of the areas and redirect conservation efforts, the phylogeny of the Cetoniinae based on both morphological and molecular data, a monographic revision of the Cetoniini of the American continents, and several other projects involving African and American scarabs.
