Description: "Body, mind, spirit, voice, it takes the whole person to sing and rejoice" ~ Helen Kemp. During this workshop, the clinician will discuss choral rehearsal and performance techniques focusing on the integration of physical, intellectual, spiritual and vocal spects into choral music performance. This session will help inspire and recharge you for another year of teaching! Dr. Armstrong is internationally known for his work with choirs of all ages and for his work with the famed St. Olaf Choir.

Description: This workshop will explore the instructional design process "Backwards by Design" suggested by Wiggins and McTighe, but connecting educational theory to the music classroom. Throughout the workshop attendees will benefit from theories and practical experiences in instructional design and planning for music classes. Assessment of groups, students self- and peer-assessment, implementing the National Standards, and other related areas will be addressed. The goal of this workshop is to increase the effectiveness of music classrooms using a streamlined and efficient process proven to maximize the potential for student learning.

Description: Learn a more comprehensive approach to working with high school vocalists in preparing solo performances. This workshop is based on 3 elements of preparation: technical performance, interpretation, and presentation. Guidelines for choosing appropriate repertoire for both competitions and entrance auditions at colleges will be discussed. The interpretive, physical, and artistic difference between vocal use in musical theater and classical vocal performance will be clearly delinated. High school students will perform in a hands-on masterclass-setting, providing practical experiences during this workshop.

Description: This workshop will explore the two music software programs Sibelius and Finale. Students will be provided with hands-on experience and individualized instruction on both programs. Discussion will take place on how student creativity can be tapped, and projects will be completed that can be immediately implemented in the classroom.

The course will take place in Westbrook Music Building on the UNL campus Monday-Friday, July 21-25, 8:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; then at Cody Elementary School in Millard, NE on Monday evenings 6:15 p.m. to 8:45 pm through September (July 28, Aug. 4, 11, 18, 25, Sept. 8, 15, 22, 29); and a Saturday workshop September 27 at University of Nebraska-Omaha.
Registration Deposit: A $50, non-refundable deposit, credited towards the clinician fee, is required.

Description: Orff Schulwerk relies on rhythmic speech, physical movement, and musical play to actively engage students in musical learning. This approach uses poems, rhymes, games, songs, and dances-all of which are natural and enjoyable to children-as springboards to educational music experiences. The cultivation of imagination and creativity is an important goal of Orff Schulwerk. Particiapnts in this workshop will gain an understanding of the pedagogical processes of the Orff Schulwerk approach while building a collection of immediately usable classroom materials. Completion of the workshop provides Level I certification under the guidelines of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.
