Summer 2009 - Welcome from the Summer Coordinator

Welcome!

Glenn E. Nierman

School of Music Summer Coordinator

A message from the School of Music Summer Coordinator...

Dear Colleagues,

The days are getting longer; the sunshine is brighter. Yes, in a few short months summer will be here. Whether you are shopping for courses to renew your certificate or looking to begin work on a Masters degree, we here at the UNL School of Music hope you will take a minute to glance at our wide array of 09 Summer Sessions Offerings and plan to make several of these courses/workshops part of your summer activites. I also invite you to examine our more detailed course descriptions and workshop descriptions, where you will find a brief narrative about each offering.

Speaking of our Masters of Music (MM) degree for PreK-12 school music educators, our program offers you a chance to specialize in Choral, General, or Instrumental Music Education. I would like to remind you that our course rotation, is filled with exciting course offerings that will allow you to complete the degree in just four short summers. The MM curriculum for music educators has its conceptual framework in comprehensive musicianship and the National Standards, including an emphasis on the challenging Standard 3 (composition) with courses such as Dr. Moore's "Technology Strategies for Composition".

As in the past, newly admitted students in the MM (Music Education) program will receive priority for a Summer Graduate Teaching Assistantship. So act today! Even in you're just very interested in a class or workshop, but are not positive that you will actually attend, utilize our OPEN REGISTRATION before May 1, 2009! The date your tuition bill is due is the same, regardless if you register on March 9 or April 30. In these tight financial times, the longer you wait to register, the greater the chance that your class or workshop may be canceled before Summer Sessions begins. We hope you will find it possible to come to campus this summer; and, if you do not already hold an advanced degree, to join the hundreds of practicing music educators with UNL music graduate degrees who know THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE NEBRASKA'S UNL School of Music to grow and advance in the profession!

Sincerely,
