Description: "Body, mind, spirit, voice, it takes the whole person to sing and rejoice" - Helen Kemp. During this workshop, the clinician will discuss choral rehearsal and performance techniques focusing on the integration of physical, intellectual, spiritual, and vocal aspects into choral music performance. This session will help inspire and recharge you for another year of teaching! Dr. Armstrong is internationally known for his work with choirs of all ages and for his work with the famed St. Olaf Choir.

Description: Apple's GarageBand music sequencing software will be explored during this workshop. This software is intuitive, student-friendly, and fun to work with as you craft your own tune. Workshop attendees will experience the joys of writing their own songs, while also exploring how to enhance music education in schools by fostering student creativity through songwriting. This workshop will include guest speakers who will provide extra perspective.

Clinician: Greg Mills
Description: Greg Mills will draw upon his 27 years as Director of Bands at Kings HS, Kings Mill, OH and vast experience as a member of the Central States Judges Association to provide insight into what adjudicators are looking for as well as preliminary adjudication training to assist band directors in meeting accepted standards. This insight will be connected to teaching and learning strategies useful in bettering your bands by getting practical suggestions on how to meet judges' expectations. Concert and Marching Ensembles directed by Mr. Mills have consistently garnered Superior Ratings and won many competitions over the past twenty-seven years. This past year the Kings Marching Band was declared the Grand Champion of Class AAA at the Mid States Band Association Championships. The Kings marching Band has been a MSBA Champion seven times during the last fifteen years and has placed in the top three every year. The band also was the 2008 Class AA Champion at the Massillon Bands of America Regional. The Kings Marching Band has consistently earned Superior Ratings at Bands of America Regionals and Grand Nationals competitions. The band has also won various caption and placement awards at Bands of America events over the last fifteen years. Practicing band directors and future music educators will benefit from this workshop. This workshop will take place during UNL's High School Marching Band Camp providing lab groups.

Description:
Orff Schulwerk relies on rhythmic speech, physical movement, and musical play to actively engage students in musical learning. This approach uses poems, rhymes, games, songs, and dances-all of which are natural and enjoyable to children-as springboards to educational music experiences. The cultivation of imagination and creativity is an important goal of Orff Schulwerk. Participants in this workshop will gain an understanding of the pedagogical processes of the Orff Schulwerk approach while building a collection of immediately usable classroom materials. Completion of the workshop provides Level I certification under the guidelines of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.

Description:
Level II extends the foundation built in Level I with increased attention to how the Orff-Schulwerk approach facilitates conceptual understanding of music and movement. The roles of rhythmic speech, singing, playing instruments, movement, and improvisation will be considered in greater depth. Recorder instruction and performance activities will involve the alto recorder, as well as the soprano instrument. Participants also will engage in a broadening range of musical experiences that include more complex compositional elements, including modal melodies, changing meters, and varying accompaniments and textures. Completion of the workshop provides Level II certification under the guidelines of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.

Clinician: Wayne Markworth
Description: Learn how to have a more dynamic and successful marching band! Contemporary ideas for drill design and marching band shows will be detailed - directly contributing to your marching band. Beyond the marching band organizational and curriculum matters, balancing life and band, rehearsal strategies, and many other helpful topics will be covered. This workshop, presented by Wayne Markworth author of The Dynamic Marching Band, will be helpful to practicing band directors and future band directors wanting ideas to take their band program to the next level. Wayne, who was the Director of Bands at Centerville High School in Ohio for 35 years, is considered to have directed one of the most successful marching bands. He also served as Fine Arts Coordinator for the Centerville City Schools for five years and High School Music Department Chair for 20 years. He presently teaches at Wright State University.
