A great tradition
Since 1884, orchestral studies have been at the heart of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's music programs.
Today, the UNL Orchestra Program - Nebraska's oldest orchestral organization - maintains a national reputation for excellence, recognized by invitations to perform at national and regional conventions of the Music Educators National Conference, and by two awards from the National Opera Association. Alumni of the UNL Orchestra Program currently hold positions in major professional symphony orchestras, as well as in college and high school music departments nationwide.

To be eligible for a music scholarship, each student must:
- Be registered as a full-time music major at the university (12 credit hours, registration must be completed prior to the first day of classes).
- Be registered in appropriate courses and ensembles consistent with a planned program of study as a music major.
- Maintain a 2.50 overall grade point average with a 3.00 grade point average in music course work.
