Orff Schulwerk Teacher Training Course Music and Movement Education for Children Level I July 21 – 25, 2008 Westbrook Music Building and 10 follow-up sessions in Omaha Orff Schulwerk relies on rhythmic speech, physical movement, and musical play to actively engage students in musical learning. This approach uses poems, rhymes, games, songs, and dances—all of which are natural and enjoyable to children—as springboards to educational music experiences. The cultivation of imagination and creativity is a primary goal. Participants in this workshop will gain an understanding of the pedagogical processes of Orff Schulwerk and build a collection of immediately usable classroom materials. Upon successful completion of the course, participants are awarded a certificate endorsing their achievement in accordance with the guidelines of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association (AOSA). Additionally, participants may choose to enroll in the course through the “credit option” and earn 2 or 3 hours of graduate college credit at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Program and Schedule The course will take place in Westbrook Music Building on the UNL campus Monday-Friday, July 21-25, 8:30 am to 4:30 p.m.; then at Cody Elementary School in Millard, NE on Monday evenings 6:15 p.m. to 8:45 pm through September (July 28, Aug. 4, 11, 18, 25, Sept. 8, 15, 22, 29); and a Saturday workshop September 27 at University of Nebraska-Omaha.
