University of Nebraska Navigators' "DNA" (mission-values-vision)

In bringing glory to God (or "filling the earth with the glory of God"), we, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Navigators, desire to make decisions based upon aligning the ministry around the following values:

  1. The centrality of Christ in everything (Identity as beloved sons and daughters, suffering in Christ, conformity to His Image and Lordship). We believe salvation is by grace, through faith in Christ alone. (Ephesians 1 & 2 ; Colossians 1 and Romans 3)
  2. A correct concept of God that influences how we relate to God and others. (Phil 3:7-11) Believing that what comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us. "There is scarcely an error in doctrine or a failure in applying Christian ethics that cannot be traced finally to imperfect and ignoble thoughts about God." C.S. Lewis
  3. A redeemed lifestyle evidenced by changing character, holiness, obedience, humility, integrity and purity in life (Titus 2:11-14)
  4. Spiritual disciplines that cultivate our affections toward God, such as worship, Bible study, prayer, Scripture memory, devotions, meditation on Scripture, repentance, fasting and Sabbath rest. (Colossians 1:9-12) "Worship is recognizing God's rightful worthiness and responding to that worthiness in any appropriately corresponding attitude and or action." ~Dr. Vern Steiner
  5. Correctly handling the word of truth (II Timothy 2:15 & II Timothy 3:16). Be Biblically driven, yet culturally sensitive. (II Timothy 3:16, Acts 17) In other words believing Scripture interprets Scripture. Context determines interpretation, and seeking the intent of the author brings clarity. The Bible is a book containing 66 chapters with intentional themes. This is where we study and listen to hear the voice of God.
  6. Creating a community of grace through authentic relationships that involve: transparency, vulnerability, truth, acceptance, the freedom to be who we are and become who Christ desires. (Colossians 2:12-14)
  7. Life on Life discipleship and spiritual multiplication, believing it is done best in the community of believers. (II Timothy 2:2; 3:10 ff) One generation growing and becoming the foundation on which generation upon generation of disciples are perpetuated.
  8. Advancing God's kingdom by intentionally and relationally reaching the lost with the biblical definition of the Gospel. (Romans 3)
  9. Reaching the nations, through missions, in order to fill the whole earth with the glorious image of God. (Revelation 5:9-10)
  10. Growing in being people of faith and prayer. We choose to live a lifestyle of dependence on God (Hebrews 11; Romans 4:20-21; John 15:7 & 8)
  11. Developing spiritual leaders-laborers through Bible study, intentional mentoring and workshop formats. Focusing on: character, initiative, faithfulness, responsibility, God's word and servanthood. We will be staff directed and student led.
  12. Involvement in and contribution to a local Christ-centered, Bible-believing church. (Ephesians 4:1-16)

"When God redeems a people, He removes them from the world that He might reside in them and rule them, in order to refashion them that they might reflect His glory." ~Dr. Vern Steiner
