Prayer
It's a powerful thing. Hopefully, that statement doesn't come across as completely shallow to you, but how can one state simplicity and truth profoundly?
Much has been said about prayer lately...that it has proven power in studies to help people when they are sick, that it makes people happier...yeah, many things have been said, but one thing's for sure and that is that prayer really does work. And it's more than just something you do for a spiritual high. It's about connecting with the real, living God...you, my friend, can talk to the God of this universe. You have the ability to pray for people you'll never meet and make an eternal impact on their lives.
In this section, you will find how you can connect with other believers on campus to pray to the almighty God! We also have a map where you can navigate around and pray for various countries around our world -- check it out! Remember the power of prayer and the power of our living God. Prayer changes lives. It's real.
Some Tips on How to Pray
Maybe you've gone into prayer relapse. You sit down to pray and two hours later you wake up refreshed from a nap... Or maybe you're just not sure where to start when it comes to praying to God. While there is no formula to get your prayers a "priority rating", there are definitely some ways that can help you develop a strong prayer life. Here are some of those tips:
GET AWAY
Meaning, go someplace by yourself or where you won't be distracted. Listen to worship music. Put away the things that scream for your attention. Look at some verses that talk about who God is. Take a walk outside and open your eyes to the beauty around you.GET ON YOUR KNEES
Okay, so you don't have to pray on your knees. But sometimes just being in a humble position gets our minds on the right track. Though you could pray in the car with your eyes wide open (yes, my friends, it's true), sometimes just falling to your knees in worship of how huge God really is helps to regain focus of who you're praying to in the first place.PRAY
It's so easy to just start rambling off all your wants and hurts and hopes and dreams, but try waiting. Think about who God is. Worship him. Thank him. Imagine being in his presence (because you are). Paint a picture for him. Write a poem. Open your heart to him.LISTEN
This is sometimes the hardest part. But prayer is a two-way conversation, so take a few moments and wait. Remember that prayer is about a relationship. Think about how God is speaking to you through your life circumstances right now. What is he saying to you in the Bible, his word? You could even jot down some of these thoughts to think more about later.IT'S NOT OVER YET
Your private prayer time may be finished, but you can still pray throughout the day. When someone's name pops into your mind, pray for them; when you're stressed, ask God for help...having God always at the forefront of your mind will also help in battling temptation and will keep you focused for the day.
The thing is, that God wants a relationship with you. And prayer is a great way to strengthen your walk with God. As we said above, God isn't impressed with formulas. The above tips are meant to encourage you and to give you ideas not to trap you into some ideology. So just be yourself and talk to God.
