The "Our Father" Prayer
In Matthew 6, Jesus talks to his disciples about prayer, and he gives them an example of how to pray called The Lord's Prayer. While this prayer is good to pray by itself, it also can be used as sort of a template to pray by. A great way to see how God is working in your life is to record your prayer requests with the date for each of these areas (below) and the date and the answers beside them. It's awesome to see how God works in our lives!
"Our Father in heaven may your name be honored."
- what are things you can praise God for today?
- think of specific areas of God's character to praise him for (his kindness, his goodness, etc.)
"May your Kingdom come soon."
- pray for the countries and peoples of this world that need God.
- pray for your country and its leaders.
"May your will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven."
- pray for your church and friends and family.
"Give us our food for today"
- pray for your own personal needs…
"And forgive us our sins, just as we have forgiven those who have sinned against us."
- ask for forgiveness for your sins and forgive those who have sinned against you.
"And don't let us yield to temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."
- pray for protection from Satan and also from personal temptations.
"For yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory."
- realize that God has the power and the strength and the might to answer your prayers.
