Big Red Road Show

NCMN helped recruit high school seniors to member departments this year by participating in the Big Red Road Show event at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha. Thousands of high school students and parents attended. Dr. Yunshen Zhou from Electrical Engineering, his doctoral student, Wenjia Hou, Terese Janovec, NCMN Outreach Coordinator and NCMN Undergraduate Fellow, Parise Reynolds visited with parents and students at the event, provided free giveaways, hands-on experiences, and personal advising to support students in their college search process.
Nebraska Science Olympiad

Dr. Stephen Ducharme was one of NCMN's faculty members who helped judge at the Nebraska Science Olympiad on UNL's East Campus. The Science Olympiad tournaments are academic competitions that consist of a series of individual and team events which students prepare for during the school year. These competitions are balanced among the various science disciplines of biology, earth science, chemistry, physics, computers and technology. Learn more about Science Olympiad at http://soinc.org
NCMN Nanoscience Camp Partnership

Fifty, 10th grade students from Grand Island and Omaha high schools participated in a Nanoscience Camp sponsored by Epscor and held in July on the UNL campus. Part of the camp included tours of nano related research in NCMN faculty labs and facility tours of NCMN equipment. Students were a part of the Nebraska College Prep Academy, a science/math focus program that encourages high school graduation and pursuit of a post-secondary degree.
Women in Science Conference

NCMN participated in the Annual Nebraska Women in Science Conference held at the Embassy Suites in Lincoln this year. Terese Janovec, NCMN Outreach Coordinator and NCMN Undergraduate Fellow represented the Center at our recruiting booth. The conference is held each year to help high school women explore science careers, interact with professional women in science, and meet other high school women in Nebraska interested in science.

Interested junior and senior high teachers visited the UNL campus with students and parents to learn more about what UNL has to offer in nanoscience research. NCMN helped coordinate tours and hands-on experiences with a variety of departments on campus and will begin to introduce students to our new Voelte-Keegan Nanoscience Research Center!
