FAQ

A rowing team? In Nebraska?
Yes, it's true; the UNL team has been around since 1969.

Who can be on the team?
Any student at the University, male or female, with the desire to learn how to row and compete can join.

But I don't know how to row!
Don't worry, we'll teach you! Very few of our members come to us with any sort of rowing experience and learn how to row with us.

Do I have to be in shape to join?
Every year individuals of all different levels of conditioning join and compete with us. All we ask is that you give us your best in practice, and we will help you improve no matter what shape you are in.

My arms aren't very strong, so I won't be good at rowing right?
Rowing actually depends primarily on the legs for power, so your upper body strength isn't an issue.

OK, so how do I join the team?
Joining is easy, and you can do it any time of the year. Contact a novice coach for more information about meeting times and practice schedules. Or, feel free to stop by one of our meetings, held every Wednesday at the Boathouse.

Where do you row?
We row at Branched Oak Lake, approximately 25 miles northwest of Lincoln near the town of Malcom.

When do you practice?
Practice times for the Fall semester have yet to be set, check back here later or e-mail a coach.

Where do you compete?
All over! We travel to Iowa, Illinois, Kansas, Oklahoma, and even Texas to compete against many other teams from across the Midwest.

What do you do in the wintertime?
Practices still continue inside the boathouse and at the rec on the ergs and in the tank, and we attend several erg races each winter.

Who coaches you?
Every semester the team elects new coaches and officers from our members to coach and govern the team. Occasionally, an alumnus of the team will pitch in and coach.
