New Child Care Center Opening August 2009

The anticipated opening date of the University of Nebraska – Lincoln (UNL) Children’s Center is August 2009. It will be located in the north annex of the newly renovated Whittier Junior High School, 22nd and Vine. The main building will house various research programs. Demolition and reconstruction of the Children’s Center will begin September 2008 with the main shell of the building remaining. Remodeling the interior will create 10 wonderful classroom spaces for children.

Enrollment at the center will be 150 children, primarily providing full time care with a limited number of part-time slots. Childcare will be provided to children ages 6 weeks to 5 years of age, 12 months of the year following the university faculty/staff calendar. In the summer there will be one classroom for school aged children, 5-8 years of age. The center will operate from 7 AM to 6 PM, Monday through Friday. Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack will be provided in accordance to USDA guidelines. The UNL Children’s Center will provide care for children of UNL students, staff, faculty, alumni and the families of Lincoln. Priority will be given to families that have a tie to the university. The rates will be determined at a later date.
