Celebrating Rural Poetry

Please join the Nebraska Writing Project in a poetry event that celebrates and reflects rural life in Nebraska . The purpose of this program is to help make rural poetry more visible, especially the poetry of rural young adults.

WHO IS A POET?

All grade nine through twelve students in NSAA classified B, C and D schools.

THE PROCESS

Participating high schools will choose the poetry of two students. Each of these students will submit one to three poems reflective of that student's rural place. These poems will be sent to the Nebraska Writing Project at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln , where they will be read by Nebraska State Poet William Kloefkorn and Nebraska poet Twyla Hanesn. Eight to ten Nebraska student poets will be selected to have their writing published on the Nebraska Writing Project website and participate in public readings at various venues in the state, including a reading on May 4 at the State Capitol alongside William Kloefkorn and Twyla Hansen.
