Continuity Programs of the Nebraska Writing Project
After the Summer Institute, NeWP provides numerous continuity programs to assist teachers in continuing to develop their own writing, connecting their work to local place, and improving their teaching through cooperation with other teachers.
Mini-Grants
Each year NeWP assists its participants by funding numerous classroom projects to help improve writing instruction at their schools. Recent NeWP mini-grants funded a diverse range of activities, including:
- Prairie Preserve project and field trip, sophomore English class, Heartland Community School, Henderson/Bradshaw
- Project and fieldtrip to Pahuk Hill to support Nebraska Studies, fourth grade, Cedar Bluffs Public School
- Fieldtrip to Genoa Indian School, eight and eleventh grades, Petersburg Public School
- Nebraska heritage writing project, Waverly High School
- After-school writing club, Our Redeemer Elementary School, Staplehurst
- Publication of Elderly Voices - Living Lines to the Past Oral History Project, Aurora High School
- Reading workshop, fifth and sixth grades, Rousseau School
- Writing project with children facing life-threatening illness in their families conducted in conjunction with the local Candlelighter's group, Seward
- After-school writing group, fourth grade, Bennington Public School
- Publication and production of History of Our Schools: Stories of the Past, fourth grade, Heartland Community School, Henderson/Bradshaw
- Creative writing class, Grant Public School
Spring Gathering
Each year NeWP holds a gathering of all NeWP teachers. Grant recipients for the year present their projects, special awards are presented. This year the event will be held on Friday May 2, 2008. Details will be forthcoming at a later date.
