We recognize Robert Slauson for his generous support of the Nebraska Writing Project Technology Institute. Two years ago, when we lost summer access to the computer center in the College of Education and Human Sciences at UNL, Robert Slauson stepped forward. As principal at Lincoln Southwest High School, he graciously offered to host the Technology Institute at Southwest, free of charge. He has continued to host Nebraska Writing Project Technology Team events at Southwest throughout the past two academic years. This coming summer, he is again hosting the Technology Institute at Southwest.

Robert Slauson was nominated for the 2009 Administrator Certificate of  Recognition by Technology Liaison Cyndi Dwyer. Cyndi writes:

A large part of Mr. Slauson's success is due to his emphasis on the importance of writing. When I shared with him the important work that the Nebraska Writing Project does, he readily agreed to help be a part of it. When I asked if we could use the Media Center Lab at Southwest, his only question was, "Would our work benefit teachers?" When I replied "Yes," his answer back was immediately "Yes."

When, in my role as Nebraska Writing Project Director, I called Robert Slauson to invite him to our Spring Gathering, he told me a bit more about this incident. Essentially, he said, when strong teachers like Ms. Dwyer who don't normally ask for anything extra tell him something's important and worth his support, he believes them. This kind of administrative support for teachers' initiative, judgment, and professional expertise is exactly what all Nebraska Writing Project teachers yearn for. We're very pleased to be able to recognize Robert Slauson with the 2009 Nebraska Writing Project Administrator Certificate of Recognition.
