Whether you are new to writing marathons or a veteran, 2016 is an exciting year. It marks the eighth anniversary of writing marathons in Nebraska. Writing from this year’s spring and winter writing marathons is attached. Information is located at the close of this article on how to become involved with a marathon as well as when the 2016 marathons are scheduled.
The Nebraska Writing Project joins a number of other UNL organizations in supporting the #BLACKLIVESMATTER student-led rally November 12 at the Nebraska Union on UNL campus. We encourage network members to read the statement “On the UNL #BlackLivesMatter Protest” written by the Ethnic Studies faculty.
During our summer board retreat in July of 2014, many of our discussions drifted towards what we can do to develop our leadership within our site and how we can continue to engage our veteran Teacher Consultants who have completed all of the institutes we offer and who are seeking no more graduate credit. Drawing on one of our beliefs on the value of social justice practices, our idea was to create a three-day professional development opportunity for teachers to come and work on a project that would create departmental, building, or district-level change.
