The Nebraska Writing Project joins a number of other UNL organizations in supporting the #BLACKLIVESMATTER student-led rally November 12 at the Nebraska Union on UNL campus. We encourage network members to read the statement “On the UNL #BlackLivesMatter Protest” written by the Ethnic Studies faculty.
During our summer board retreat in July of 2014, many of our discussions drifted towards what we can do to develop our leadership within our site and how we can continue to engage our veteran Teacher Consultants who have completed all of the institutes we offer and who are seeking no more graduate credit. Drawing on one of our beliefs on the value of social justice practices, our idea was to create a three-day professional development opportunity for teachers to come and work on a project that would create departmental, building, or district-level change.
The Young Writers Camp was a great success this year, registering a final count of 40 students, and involving ten undergraduate interns, two Nebraska Writing Project teacher consults, Derek Funk and Jennifer Long, and two University of Nebraska-Lincoln graduate students studying writing in our Ph.D. program.

We are currently welcoming reservations for the 2015 writing marathon and retreat. The retreat begins Friday, September 25 and concludes the 27th. Join other NeWP TCs in the Chokecherry cabins for a Friday night pizza party and writing activity. Saturday join the annual Writing Marathon launching at Owen Landing. Follow up the evening with the writing retreat potluck and participant favorite Pick a Passage.
