CONGRATULATIONS to our 2009-2010 predoctoral internship class! We will have 26 interns in the Nebraska Internship Consortium in Professional Psychology from 20 different Clinical, Counseling, and School Psychology programs in 16 different states. We are looking forward to working with you all next year! The NICPP Orientation meeting is scheduled for Friday, August 28, 2009 from 12:00 - 4:00 at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln. An agenda will be e-mailed to you.
The Nebraska Internship Consortium in Professional Psychology (NICPP) is comprised of seven cooperating agencies that together offer a broad range of professional experiences for qualified doctoral students in psychology. The internship program is one full year (12 months; 2000 hours) in duration. The agencies are located in the cities of Lincoln, Omaha, and Beatrice, Nebraska.
The NICPP is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and is a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC). The Consortium accepts applicants from school, counseling, and clinical psychology doctoral programs, and preference is given to students from accredited programs.
Given its unique status as a consortium, the NICPP is committed to comprehensive and coordinated experiences. Therefore, intern admission is made to the NICPP and not to an individual agency per se. Primary training experiences, responsibilities, and supervision are coordinated at individual sites, with oversight by the NICPP board of directors. In 2008, 141 students applied to the Consortium and we currently have 27 interns for the 2008-2009 year. Interviews for prospective interns in 2010-2011 will be held on January 8th and January 15th, 2010. Open houses at the various sites will be on January 7th and January 14, 2010.
Intern stipends range from $20,000 to $30,000 for a full-time, 12-month training period. Health insurance is available at some agencies. Approximately 25 intern positions are available each year in the Consortium. Interns attend monthly seminar, have access to many other educational events, and are exposed to a wide array of talented supervisors.
Students who have completed their internship training with the Consortium have been very successful in obtaining employment in a variety of settings such as hospitals, community mental health centers, universities, and school districts. Occasionally post-doctoral opportunities are available at some of the sites in the Consortium. Additional information on past intern's employment placements and post-doctoral placements may be obtained from the Consortium office and from the APPIC website.
