Prospective Students
New Student Orientation 2003
All incoming freshmen are required to participate in New Student Orientation. This event traditionally takes place the week prior to the first day of school. Students participate in various training including classroom study such as Customs and Courtesies and Introduction to Physical Training or P.T. Further, all students are given a campus orientation as well as an orientation to NROTC areas. Upon completion of New Student-O as it is sometimes called, all students become a part of the Battalion as well as the University of Nebraska.

Many students study and spend time in the NROTC common area, known as the wardroom. Computers and other study materials are readily available here. Throughout the school year students are also required to participate in Naval Lab. This event occurs every Thursday from 1530-1700, or from 3:30 P.M. To 5:00 P.M. Students interact with each other in various training scenarios and events. Other requirements include PT, or physical training, which is conducted on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings before classes. Lastly, students are required to become a member of either the Drill Team, Pistol/Rifle Team, or Sail Team.

This program is available to all University of Nebraska students. Scholarships are available for this program. Please see the NROTC website to fill out an electronic application and for more information. If you are currently an enlisted, active-duty Navy sailor, please check into the STA-21 program. Anyone interested in joining the NROTC Unit at the Univerisity of Nebraska through the College Program can download and fill out the College Program NROTC application.
