Academic Support Services

 

OASIS offers an array of programs to help students successfully complete their education. These programs aim at developing not only the scholastic abilities but the overall personaltiy of the student. Helping them to face the challeges positively and proactively.

Academic Lecture Series: A series of study skills and motivational workshops designed to support various areas of student development.

Coach Program: COACH offers a variety of services to assist freshman students in a establishing a sound academic "Game Plan" through the utilization of tutoring services, mentoring, academic workshops and exposure to cultural campus activities.

NU Connections is a mentoring and social support program that provides first-year undergraduate students of color, and Nebraska Achievement, Davis, Heritage, Larson Gupta, and SIPS Scholarship students with a support system consisting of:

  1. A connection with a family of mentors - student peers.
  2. A connection to NU resources.

Shades of Leadership: A celebration to recognize those students, faculty and staff who have made outstanding contributions to the enrichment of minority student education at NU.

Students Taking Academic Control (STAC) is set up to help monitor the academic progress of each of the students served by OASIS. First-time probation students are contacted to discuss available services. STAC students are encouraged to see their advisers about the possible need to change schedules. STAC students are urged to commit to 2 hours of study time for every hour in class. It is recommended that STAC students to spend at least 6 hours per week in the NU Connections Success Lab where tutoring is available. OASIS Program Coordinators are available to them for consultation on academic, social or personal issues.
