The Transfer Connection
August 25, 2008
Greetings,
Welcome Back! It is good to see activity on campus. Thanks for taking a moment to point the way to a new student. We've all been there. I hope you will join me to welcome new transfer students at an Ice Cream Social next Thursday, September 4, Love Library Instruction Room (Love South 110) at 5:30 pm. New students like to meet current students who survived the first few weeks. Join us for some Ice Cream from the Dairy Store--MMmm! There will be no formal program, just introductions of college officials and our Tau Sigma and Phi Theta Kappa Alumni hosts at about 5:45. The rest of the time is for ice cream and socializing.
Is your first year at UNL over? For students who started at UNL in the Fall Semester 2007 (last fall) this will be your last Transfer Connection. If you wish to continue to receive it, email me and ask to "stay on the list". Others may opt out at any time by request.
If you took a course somewhere else over the summer be sure to have the final transcript sent to the Office of Admissions so your credit will transfer. If you still have other transfer hours that have not been officially evaluated, contact your academic adviser or Dean's office. If you have difficulty, let me know. Remember you may need to provide information about the course--a syllabus is most helpful. If you are in General Studies, you do not have a degree declared to apply the credit toward, so you will not have an official evaluation.
Transition web page. If you are still getting used to finding things on the UNL web page or are looking for something in Lincoln check out this page designed by transfer students. These topics are in the Useful Tools and Information tab: GPA Calculator, Power of Possibilities, How to Study, Financial Tools, Street Closing List, Lincoln Weather and Climate, Finding a Mentor. http://transition.unl.edu
Tuition and Fees deadline. Wednesday, September 10. Overdue accounts result in a hold on your record. A hold means you cannot register for a class or get a transcript among other things. If you pay the overdue account by check it can take up to two weeks to clear the hold.
Tau Sigma honor society will invite new members early in the semester. If you started in January, are a degree seeking, full time student, and you earned a 3.5 or better GPA in the fall semester you are eligible to join Tau Sigma. Invitations will be coming in a few weeks. Contact me if you have questions.
I am your resource when you are not sure where to find the information you need. I can put you in touch with other resources and offices on campus.
