The Transfer Connection

Greetings,

I hope your semester is off to a great start. Save some time Thursday, September 10 from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. to share some ice cream with other transfer students and college representatives. Be sure to join us in the Library Instruction Room (Love Library 110 South) even if you cannot stay for the hour.

Remember the transition website (http://transition.unl.edu/) designed by transfer students for transfer students. Find resources you need right away to assist in your transition--building abbreviations and parking maps, bus routes and how to study tips. Your feedback about the transition web resources and the Transfer Connection are valued. Let me know if these resources are helpful or how they could be improved. Email jmoseman2@unl.edu.

Each semester is an opportunity for a new beginning so set yourself up for success. Get organized now. Meet your classmates and organize study groups. Decide what you will use for your master calendar. It could be a printed planner or a calendar program on your laptop or phone. Multiple calendars cause confusion.

Important dates from the Academic Calendar. I recommend bookmarking this page. http://www.unl.edu/regrec/calendar/calendar_main.shtml
August 31 (Mon.) Last day to drop a full semester course and receive 100% refund
September 4 (Fri.) Last day to drop a full semester course and receive 75% refund
September 4 (Fri.) Last day to file a drop to remove course from student's record
September 5 (Sat.) - November 13 (Fri.) All course withdrawals noted with a "W" on academic record

Another page to bookmark is the Academic Handbook. http://www.unl.edu/regrec/acadserv/AcademicServicesHandbook.pdf
It will answer many of your questions about academic policies and procedures. I like the PDF bookmarks to help find answers to questions like how many hours are required for senior status.

An opportunity to go to Mexico for 12 days next August. Professor Keown will again be offering to take a group of students to Mexico in August of 2010.
"Among the sites listed below we will also visit--US Embassy, University of Chapingo--UNAM the Largest and first University founded in North or South America--founded in 1520. New Veteran's Organization--The newly formed Student Veteran's Organization will meet the second Thursday of each month at 8:00 p.m. in the Union. During the first meeting on September 10, Gary Chalupa (Lancaster County Veterans Service Officer) will present information about the 9/11 GI Bill. All veterans are welcome to attend. For more information contact Steve Vossler (svossler2@gmail.com) or Laura Roost (roost@huskers.unl.edu).

If you transferred to UNL summer or fall of 2008 you will no longer receive the Transfer Connection unless you have notified me that you wish to "Stay on the list".
