The Transfer Connection

Greetings,

A Study Group is one method to achieve academic success. These tips will help your group to be more effective.

  • Invite 3-4 members
  • meet once a week
  • commit to showing up and doing the work
  • choose a leader/facilitator to keep you on track

For more information see the attached tip sheet from the Academic Resource Center at Duke University.

Find a meeting room. Meetings scheduled in one of the unions often do not designate a room. In most cases rooms are assigned the day of the event once all requests are known. To find your meeting before you go check "Today's Schedule" for City or East Union and find the room on the floor plan. http://unions.unl.edu/ The schedule is also posted daily in each union at the information desk, near elevators, and on each floor.

Do you know who your liaison librarian is? Check out http://www.unl.edu/libr/liaison/subjsubj.shtml . A liaison librarian can help you find journal articles, books, web resources, and more when you have a presentation, project, or paper to work on. Liaison librarians answer reference questions, suggest search strategies, and select materials for the University Libraries collections.

From http://iris.unl.edu you can explore the many electronic journals, article indexes, and library services available to you. Love Library on city campus and C.Y. Thompson Library on east campus have group study rooms and computer labs, comfortable furniture, and quiet places to study.

Finally, if you want a 15 minute tour of Love Library, contact Kate Adams, undergraduate services coordinator, at kadams1@unl.edu or 472-2560.

Choosing a major or career can feel overwhelming. There are some tips on this web page from General Studies. It also has a link to the Power of Possibilities on-line tool to help link career interests and UNL majors. Realize that careers for most people will change drastically over time but skills like communication will be relevant even if the media or style evolve.
