The Transfer Connection

Greetings,

I hope you enjoyed your break and had some time to relax a little. I know many of you were busy with work and some with service projects. There are many ways to participate in service. The university recognizes the importance of social responsibility. One of the four institutional objectives in the new Achievement Centered Education or ACE,the new general education program, states that students will "Exercise individual and social responsibilities through the study of ethical principles and reasoning, application of civic knowledge, interaction with diverse cultures, and engagement with global issues."

Even though the new ACE guidelines do not apply to current students, you are encouraged to find ways to volunteer. The university community makes it easy by organizing service projects like these.

A "Fill the Fountain" food drive will be held the week of March 30 to April 3 at the Nebraska Union near the Broyhill Fountain. Non-perishable food items and
personal care items will be collected from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day with all proceeds going to the Food Bank of Lincoln.

The Big Event is a one-day service event bringing UNL students, faculty, and staff together to meet the needs of the Lincoln community. The Big Event is our chance to get out there and say thanks for Lincoln's support! The 2009 Big Event will be Saturday, April 25. You can sign up to participate with a student group. Tau Sigma, national honor society for transfer students, will work as a group and you are invited to join us. Just indicate on the on-line sign up that you want to work with a group and select "Tau Sigma" from the drop down list. T-shirts are provided and there will be free food and entertainment at the end of the day. See more at http://bigevent.unl.edu/

UNL's Education Recruitment Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 1 in the Nebraska Union. Representatives from 60 schools in nine states will meet with potential educators about teaching opportunities. The event is free and open to the public. http://www.unl.edu/careers/erd
