The Transfer Connection

Greetings,

Next Friday the 14th is the last day to withdraw from a full semester course. I *strongly* encourage you to talk with an adviser before withdrawing from a course. Remember you have already paid for the course and bought the book. Even if you earn below a "C you can still retake the course and replace the low grade. Sometimes withdrawing from a course can drop you below full time status which can affect financial aid, and potentially even things like medical insurance or student discounts. There are situations when it is appropriate, but don't withdraw on a whim.

Perhaps you registered but did not get into a class you need. What do you do? First, keep checking. Students drop and add all through registration, trying to tweak their schedules. That means it is likely that a seat will come open in the course you need. And try to be as flexible as possible. Is there a backup course or another time that you can take it? You can also visit with your adviser about options. This is especially important if you are close to graduation.

GPA calculator. If you have ever wondered how your GPA is figured or how to estimate your GPA for the term, you can use this calculator on the CBA website. http://www.cba.unl.edu/ugrad/gpacalc/index.aspx. Remember that grades outside the NU System are not calculated in the NU GPA, but if you have any credit from UNL, UNK or UNMC, those grades do figure in your GPA. You can use the estimator to figure out what grades you need to reach a particular GPA. If you need to raise your GPA to be admitted to the college of your choice, or for a good student discount, you can find what grades you need to make this semester. Details about what counts and what does not count and how it is figured are all in the Academic Handbook. http://www.unl.edu/regrec/acadserv/AcademicServicesHandbook.pdf It is a good idea to know where to find this resource. I frequently use the bookmarks on the left menu to help answer student questions.
