The Transfer Connection
Greetings,
Students who are also parents face unique challenges. If you are a parent, your input is needed. Check out the attached flyer about a focus group exploring barriers to educational achievement for this group. Contact me if you have trouble opening the attached PDF. Click here for the flyer.
College graduates are expected to have leadership skills. How do you define leadership? How have you demonstrated it? Holding an office in an organization does not necessarily demonstrate leadership, but can help you develop skills. Can you give concrete examples of your ability to lead? I did a quick search and found these qualities of effective leaders to help you get started.
Effective leaders make an effort to learn and practice skills so they can:
- listen openly to others
- offer and accept constructive suggestions
- give clear directions
- set and meet deadlines
- give formal and informal presentations
- help members identify and solve problems
- set an example of desired behavior
- show appreciation of others' contributions
- show understanding
- encourage members to exchange ideas
- handle conflict
- guide the group in goal setting and decision making
- delegate responsibilities
- ask questions of the group to prompt responses
- create a productive atmosphere
Final Exams begin on December 15. Make sure you check the schedule of final exams in your printed Schedule of Classes or on line at: http://www.unl.edu/regrec/grades/fall_sched.shtml Find more information about finals in the Academic Services Handbook (p. 19) http://www.unl.edu/regrec/acadserv/AcademicServicesHandbook.pdf
The last thing you want is to find out your car was ticketed or has been towed because of a snow emergency. This link will give you details about the order in which the city plows streets so your vehicle is not in the way. Watch the weather and stay informed so you know if you need to move your car. Avoid fines, towing and storage fees. http://www.lincoln.ne.gov/city/pworks/street/snow/index.htm
