The Transfer Connection

Greetings,

Record keeping may not be exciting, but certainly is necessary. Whether it is tracking the bills you pay or the classes you take, keeping records now will make your life easier later. When you start to write or update your resume, it will be so helpful to have your transcript, as well as notes about courses you have taken. If you think about how the courses and other experiences have helped you learn and grow, it will help shape your resume or application. Make sure you also track volunteer experiences, and assignments at work. Take some time periodically--maybe at semester break or the end of each semester to update the organizations in which you are involved, as well as your activities and volunteer hours. The format is up to you. Some like paper records, some use a spreadsheet or e-portfolio.

Find out the time and day you can first register for Spring semester at Registration and Records.  Access is based on your class standing and the first day for each group is scheduled by the last digit of your social security number.  Details:  http://www.unl.edu/regrec/registration/spring_instr.shtml

If you have not made an appointment with your academic adviser this is a good time.  When registration gets closer appointments are harder to get and may be on a walk-in basis only.  Some advising centers--like General Studies--operate on walk-in hours all semester.

You may need an official transcript for a scholarship or for student discounts on insurance. Transcripts are a service of the Office of Registration and Records. You can now order transcripts through WAM! There is no charge for transcripts, but here may be charges for special services like overnight delivery. Your account must be clear of all holds to get an official transcript. http://www.unl.edu/regrec/grades/transcripts.shtml.

Have you found ways to get connected at UNL?  It can be hard to feel like part of such a large campus until you meet people.  Introduce yourself to classmates, try out student organizations and events.  There are bound to be others who share your interests  Don't forget about the Transition web page.  Now that you know what your questions are, you may find answers.  http://transition.unl.edu/
