The Transfer Connection
Greetings,
I hope you enjoyed Fall Break. A step back midway through the semester can help you regain perspective. Check your To Do list for the semester and evaluate your progress. As you select courses for the next semester try to put them in the larger context of your career, your profession, your future. Discuss ideas with your academic adviser or career counselor. http://www.unl.edu/careers/
I have challenged you to attend campus events. The UNL Calendar (http://events.unl.edu/) lists lectures, symposia, performances, and gallery exhibits. Attending one or more each semester can help you make valuable connections with other students, faculty and staff in a setting different from the classroom. Some are very specific academic topics, but many are appealing to the general population like the Economic Department Seminar listed below.
Credit cards and cell phones are great tools, but must be used wisely. It is just as important to know where and when NOT to use each one. For example, studies show that we spend more when we use a card rather than cash. Those extra dollars add up when you charge the coffee or text over your limit. Know your credit limit. Know your interest rate, and what happens to it if your payment is late. When you leave this university you will have an education. What will you have to show for the balance on your Visa? For more information see http://money.cnn.com/magazines/moneymag/money101/.
You may find you need to study or write differently in different academic disciplines. This web site has some tips on how to approach science differently from business or humanities. http://www.howtostudy.org/resources.php#HowtoStudy. Scroll up for other study and time management resources.
