The Transfer Connection

Greetings,

I hope you were able to take a break-or at least have a change in routine this week. Maybe you took a few minutes to winterize your car and your wardrobe. Dig out the boots and gloves and check your antifreeze and washer fluid. Remember to check your tire pressure as weather changes can make a difference. You want to be prepared for fall and winter in Nebraska.

Get your car and your thinking ready for snow, cold and wind with information from this page from the Nebraska Department of Roads. http://www.nebraskatransportation.org/rca/wz/winter-page.htm Even if you have driven here for years, it is a good reminder of winter weather terms and things to keep in your vehicle. There are also links to road conditions and even traffic cameras around the state at 511 Traveler Info.

UNL Alert will notify you in the event of weather or other emergencies. Be Prepared. Sign up at http://emergency.unl.edu/

Are you ready for priority registration? Surely over break you thought about your goals and how to reach them. And you have an appointment with your adviser and have looked over the schedule of classes and have several options for following the degree plan you and your adviser have worked on. Not so much? No time like the present. Find the registration information you need at the Registration & Records web site. http://www.unl.edu/regrec/index.shtml. That is a great site to keep in Favorites. Besides registration, they have info on grading policies, veteran resources, graduation, drop/add, ordering transcripts and more.

Stress?!!? What Stress? After break, the pace of the semester seems to pick up. As skies turn gray and temps go down stress levels go up. News of worldwide economic woes and more and more virulent election campaign ads only add to the problem. If you feel overwhelmed by the news, try to limit your exposure. Check the news once or twice a day. If the radio or TV or internet source goes on too long, change to music or turn it off. If stress is interfering with your daily activities, it is time to seek help. A great source of help is the University Health Center Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). The Health Center also provides dental services, immunization (like flu shots, allergy shots), pharmacy, and primary care clinic. Some services are free for students, while others are at reduced cost.
