Directions for Student Request for Departmental Evaluation of International Transfer Credit
Transfer credit from institutions outside the United States may be accepted based on the type of institution involved and its recognition by the educational authorities of the home country. Once credit is accepted in transfer, faculty will review credit on a course by course basis, evaluating the content, level, and comparability of the study to courses and programs at UNL. Faculty review is required to determine how the credit will be applied to your program of study.
Courses must be reviewed by an evaluator in the department which offers a similar course, not necessarily the department of your major. For example, for all students, calculus would be evaluated by the math department. You may need to contact more than one department (e.g. math, chemistry, psychology) for review of transfer courses. Please have available in English, course documents such as a syllabus, course outline, list of textbooks used, etc. Evaluators may ask for other specific information, depending on the course.
There is no deadline to complete the evaluations, but you will not be able to enroll in courses which require prerequisites until the evaluator certifies that you have completed the prerequisite courses at your home institution. For example, a student may not enroll in CHEM 110, General Chemistry II until the completed evaluation indicates the student has earned the equivalent of CHEM 109, General Chemistry I. Your courses with IVAL designation will not be applied to your UNL degree until they has been approved by the appropriate department.
