Summer Institute for Promising Scholars (SIPS)

The Summer Institute for Promising Scholars is a five-week residential program to introduce students to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Participating students are from first generation and/or low income students that plan to enroll at UNL in fall 2010.
Position: SIPS Intern (two residential positions)
Term of Appointment: May 31 - July 16, 2010
Compensation: $8/hr at 40 hrs/week, plus room and board
SIPS Interns are required to take EDPS 496 in spring 2010.
An ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:
- UNL student, senior standing or graduate student preferred; must be 21 years of age or older by the start of this contract.
- Experience working with students from a diverse background.
- Event planning experience.
- Valid Nebraska driver's license and good driving record
Duties:
- Supervise early-entry college students in the residential environment
- Assist SIPS staff in providing academic and developmental programming to SIPS scholars
- Create and assist in planning and implementing leadership, career, cultural and recreational activities
- Assist in monitoring students academic program component at study halls
- Transport students to and from all organized SIPS programs and activities
- Other duties as assigned by SIPS Director and/or SIPS Coordinator
