Special Announcement

Update from the Division of General Studies

Many years ago, the Division of General Studies (DGS) expanded its newsletter from a once-a-semester paper format to a weekly email service for DGS students (via Blackboard), providing up-to-date information on pending deadlines, new programs, changes in degree requirements and special events and opportunities on campus.

Beginning in May of this year, DGS is expanding its newsletter service further, this time to a new and potentially very interested audience: the parents of DGS students admitted for the fall, 2008, semester. Parents who choose to provide their email addresses will receive biweekly emails which list and describe important academic dates, deadlines and procedures and will also suggest to parents how they can assist their students with important decisions bad challenges during their initial semester at the University.

The Division is also continuing its retention initiatives with probationary and 2nd year students, encouraging these students to come in for academic advising specifically focused on strategies for re-establishing good academic standing and/or declaring majors in a timely manner, leaving DGS and matriculating in the college of their choice.
