UCARE Update
391 students were awarded UCARE funds for the 2007-08 academic year. The list of funded projects will be available on the UCARE website soon.
PEARL Retreat
The PEARL retreat was held on May 7th, at the Wilderness Ridge Golf Club (1800 Wilderness Woods Place). Program leaders participated from 8:30 - 3:00, department chairs participated from 10:30 - 1:30, and peer reviewers participated from 11:30 - 3:00. The retreat featured an address from Dr. Robert Gotshall on his program's approach to assessment at Colorado State University, recognition of PEARL best practices, and PEARL planning through conversations with program leaders and peer reviewers.
Recognition of PEARL best practices
Twelve programs were recognized on May 7th for having 2005-2006 Program Excellence through Assessment, Research and Learning (PEARL) best practices. The best practices were identified through a review performed by faculty peer reviewers and the PEARL steering committee.

Dr. Kim Bender, from Colorado State University, visits UNL
Dr. Kim Bender is the Director of Assessment at Colorado State University and will be at UNL on May 16-18, 2007. Dr. Bender developed the Plan for Researching Improvement and Supporting Mission (PRISM) system, which has been implemented at UNL as PEARL. Dr. Bender will be speaking at the USDA CSREES North Central Academic Program Section conference. The conference theme is "Student Learning...Strategies for Assessment, Outcomes, and Program Improvement", and will be hosted by the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources. Dr. Bender will also be meeting with the PEARL steering committee, PEARL peer reviewers and program leaders and a number of other groups from across campus. Welcome, Dr. Bender!
