Appreciation for Former PEARL Peer Reviewers

The PEARL Peer Reviewers have provided strong guidance and leadership, leading to the growth and success of PEARL. Additionally, the feedback provided by the Peer Reviewers to PEARL programs has brought about many improvements in PEARL assessment plans. The PEARL Steering Committee offers its deep appreciation and gratitude for the time and effort that these individuals gave to PEARL. THANK YOU!

Honors Program Graduates

The University Honors Program is proud to announce the 182 students will be graduating from the Program on May 10. All students have completed at least 24 Honors hours, including the two required seminars, and an Honors research thesis or creative project. Congratulations to those students!

Three UNL Students Receive Goldwater Scholarship

Aaron Fluitt, Corey Georgesen and Robert Woodward, UNL undergraduate students, have been awarded Barry M. Goldwater Scholarships for 2008-09 from the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation.

The Goldwater Scholars were selected on the basis of academic merit from a field of 1,035 mathematics, science, and engineering students who were nominated by the faculties of colleges and universities nationwide. 189 of the Scholars are men, 132 are women, and virtually all intend to obtain a Ph.D. as their degree objective. Thirty-three Scholars are mathematics majors, 227 are science and related majors, 52 are majoring in engineering, and nine are computer science majors. Many of the Scholars have dual majors in a variety of mathematics, science, engineering and computer disciplines. The one and two-year scholarships cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, and room and board up to a maximum of $7,500 per year. Goldwater Scholars have academic qualifications that have garnered the attention of prestigious post-graduate fellowship programs. The scholarships are awarded to undergraduate sophomores and juniors from the United States.

Fluitt is a sophomore from Lincoln and a graduate of Lincoln East High School. He majors in chemical engineering, working with Dr. Hendrik Viljoen in Chemical Engineering and will pursue a research career. Georgesen is a sophomore from Omaha who graduated from Creighton Preparatory School. Majoring in math and biochemistry and working with Dr. Anisa Angeletti in Biological Sciences, he plans to pursue an M.D. or a Ph.D. Woodward is a sophomore from Rochester, Minn., and graduated from Mayo High School. He majors in computer science and engineering, working with Dr. Berthe Choueiry in Computer Science and Engineering and plans to pursue a career in research.
