A discussion of the basic concepts and problems of political theory. Particular attention will be paid to freedom, equality, democracy, justice, and the relation of the individual to the state. Readings will be selected from both classical and contemporary sources. Some consideration will be given to current political issues.

Prerequisite: Sophomore standing or one philosophy course. Must be in the Honors Program.

Written work for the course will include two hour exams and a final exam at the end of the semester.
