The course will trace the development of American Pragmatism from the 1870's to the present, focusing on the essential writings of the three figures who made original contributions to this movement: Charles Sanders Peirce, William James, and John Dewey. Other currents in American thought such as Critical Realism and Idealism; and contemporary philosophic views that continue the spirit of pragmatism.

Prerequisites: All 300-level philosophy courses have a prerequisite of 3 hours of philosophy, or permission of the instructor.
