Julia was born in Kansas and grew up in Iowa.  After earning her B.A. from the University of Iowa, she joined the Peace Corps and spent two years teaching English in the Ivory Coast.   She taught ESL courses in France and at Columbia College Chicago and The Chicago School of the Art Institute before settling in Lincoln, Nebraska where she is currently employed.  Her interests include hiking, biking, yoga, and artistic pursuits including photography, painting, and playing the piano.
