General Information
All sessions of the symposium will take place in the Nebraska Union on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Campus, unless otherwise noted. The Nebraska Union is located at 14th & R Streets. The symposium packets will include the final program and event locations.

Lodging
A block of lodging rooms has been reserved at the Holiday Inn Lincoln Downtown, 141 N. 9th Street. To reserve your lodging room online, go to Holiday Inn Lincoln-Downtown website. On the left side of the page, under "Check Availability", insert the symposium dates (April 7-9, 2010) and the group code "CZS". Click "Check Availability" and you will be directed to the Czech Symposium block.
You may also reserve a room by dialing the following: 402-475-4011 (front desk) or 1-800-465-4329 (1-800 HOLIDAY—central reservations). Please refer to the group code "CZS" (Czech Symposium) when reserving your lodging.
Symposium lodging room rates (not including tax) are: $89 single or double occupancy. The hotel must have your reservation by Wednesday, March 17, 2010, to receive these symposium rates. You are responsible for your own lodging arrangements.
Travel
Lincoln is reached via Interstate 80, U.S. Hwy 77, or Interstate 29 by way of Nebraska Hwy 2. The Lincoln Airport is serviced by two major airlines, United and Delta. Other airline carriers service Eppley Field in Omaha (55 miles east of Lincoln). OMALiNK and Eppley Express provide daily shuttle service between the Omaha and Lincoln areas.

Refunds
All requests for full refund of advance registration fees must be submitted in writing and postmarked by March 26, 2010. After the due date, a $10 administration fee will be deducted from all refunds. Refunds will be processed after the symposium.
Special Events
OPENING RECEPTION — The opening reception of the symposium will be held on Wednesday evening, April 7 from 6:00-8:30 p.m.in the Great Plains Art Museum, 1155 Q Street. The museum will host an exhibition of black and white photography by Jean Lewis entitled "Czech Memories: Ethnicity and History Preserved in the Built Environment." The exhibit will feature scenes from Wilber and other immigrant communities around Nebraska. In addition, local and national Czech Queens will be here, and entertainment will be by The Kramer Sisters, specializing in harmony vocals and a variety of folk instruments including the Czech bagpipe (dudy), stomp fiddle, and horse tail jug.
RECEPTION AND OPERA HIGHLIGHTS — Join us for a dessert reception at the Great Plains Art Museum, 1155 Q Street, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. prior to an evening performance of Czech and Slovak Opera highlights. Under the direction of Professor William Shomos, the opera highlights will be presented in the original language by graduate and undergraduate opera majors from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's School of Music. Works by Janacek, Dvorak, Smetana will be featured. The opera performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium in the Sheldon Museum of Art, 12th & R Streets on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.
FRIDAY LUNCHEON* — The luncheon will be held in the Nebraska Union Ballroom from 12-2:00 p.m. Our speaker will be Daniel Miller. Tickets are no longer available.
FRIDAY BANQUET* — The concluding event of the symposium will be the banquet on Friday evening, April 9 in the Nebraska Union Ballroom, 14th & R Streets. A social gathering will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:00 p.m. Our speaker will be Martin Mejstřík. Tickets are no longer available.
ROTUNDA GALLERY ART EXHIBIT — “Continuity/Kontinuita: Prints from Czech/Slovak American and International Artists” examines the specific cultural background of Czech/Slovak heritage through the work of American and International artists. The exhibit is located in the Rotunda Gallery of the Nebraska Union, 14th & R Streets. Curated by Karen Kunc, UNL Cather Professor of Art and artist/educator, Simon Brejcha, Prague.
