The Public Policy Center 's final report on the “PRIORITY LINCOLN – We're listening” initiative has been released. The initiative involves the City's using public input as part of the budgeting for outcomes process being implemented by Lincoln for the 2008-09 fiscal year. Growing Success: Statewide Community Summit on Depression
On June 19th, 2008, the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center and lead partner NET convened a statewide summit in Lincoln, called Growing Success, about creating pathways to the successful treatment of depression. The event featured noted talk show personality and Nebraska-native Dick Cavett as the keynote speaker, as well as a panel of local experts and depression survivors. Communities across Nebraska were able to participate in the discussion via live video conference. The event was part of a national PBS initiative, Depression: Out of the Shadows.

Nebraska Substance Abuse Needs Assessment
The 2008 Substance Use Needs Assessment is being conducted by the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center for the Nebraska Division of Behavioral Health to gather input from consumers and their families, professionals, funders, and administrators regarding Nebraska’s substance use system needs. Nebraska Minority Justice Committee Releases 2007 Progress Report
The Nebraska Minority Justice Committee The Nebraska Minority Justice Committee, a joint effort of the Nebraska Supreme Court, Nebraska State Bar Association and Public Policy Center, was established to examine and address issues and perceptions of racial and ethnic bias in the court system. We are pleased to release our
annual Progress Report for 2007.

New Direction for Children & Adolescent Behavioral Health in Nebraska
Last session, the legislature created a Children's Behavioral Health Task Force (LB 542, 2007) to plan "for the development of a statewide integrated system of care to provide appropriate educational, behavioral health, substance abuse, and support services to children and their families." As part of this effort, the Department of Health and Human Services developed a plan ("Creating Change and Providing Hope for Nebraska’s Children, Adolescents and Their Families", 2008 ) to create a "fundamental shift in behavioral health services for children and adolescents" in Nebraska. Public Policy Center staff worked closely with the Department to develop the plan and report.

Nebraska Courts to Translate Documents
Click here for the Lincoln Journal Star article about the Nebraska Efforts to Ensure Equal Access to Justice project, which will begin translating court documents to Spanish, Vietnamese, and Arabic next month. Translated forms should be available statewide early next year. The Minority Justice Committee of the University of Nebraska Public Policy Center is overseeing the project.
