ACTIVITIES:

Mentor Program

The PRSSA Mentoring Program is designed to cultivate relationships between members and business professionals. Through the program, members have the option to request a mentor in the PR field. Each student is matched closely with a mentor who shares his or her interests in public relations. The goal of the program is for the pairs to meet at least twice per semester. The interaction can be as simple as meeting for coffee, or emails and phone calls. Keeping the relationship informal allows students to ask questions and network with a professional on a more personal, less intimidating level. Internships and job shadowing are not expected, but sometimes great opportunities come out of having a mentor. Our mentors are also invited to meetings once or twice a semester. They come prepared to discuss a specified topic or present on different aspects of PR. This gives all members a chance to interact with the mentors and benefit from their experience. Through the Mentoring Program, members are given opportunities to interact and network with professionals in the PR industry. Connecting with people and building relationships is the foundation of public relations, so this program gives PRSSA members the chance to experience PR firsthand.

To get matched up witha mentor, fill out the Mentor Program application and return to Phyllis Larsen with your membership dues.
