STUDENT INFORMATION AND ELIGIBILITY
Students accepted into the REU program at UNL will have achieved a sophomore standing by the time that they are admitted and have at least a B average in their undergraduate programs. Although students who are not psychology majors may apply to the program, preference will be shown to psychology majors. Each student will have successfully completed an introductory psychology course and at least two additional content courses in psychology. The content courses include physiological psychology, cognitive psychology, learning theory, personality theory, developmental psychology, and social psychology. While some exceptions may be made for exceptional students, the program will be geared toward majors who intend to go to graduate school in psychology, especially those interested in psychology and law. Students with fewer than three courses in psychology are unlikely to be committed to this career path. Finally, each student will have completed at least one statistics and/or methods course or be willing to take such a course during the REU year at UNL or at the student's home institution.
Although all undergraduate psychology students are eligible, the program intends to select undergraduates from diverse backgrounds. Students will be accepted according to their expressed interests to complete a full year as an active member of a research team, willingness to spend a year in residence on the UNL campus and take academic courses, motivation to study psychology and law, and intentions to attend graduate school.
