For more than 30 years, the State Symphony Orchestra of Mexico has been lauded for its brilliant technique and powerful dynamics. The orchestra has been honored with numerous awards and has performed at many festivals and on tour around the world, representing the best of Mexican music and culture. The orchestra will perform "The Three-Cornered Hat, Suite No. 2," by Manuel De Falla; "Fantasia para un gentilhombre," by Joaquin Rodrigo; "Sinfonia India, No. 2," by Carlos Chaves; and "Symphony No. 4," by Johannes Brahms. “El Dia de los Muertos: Day of the Dead Celebration,” 1-4pm, Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery
Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery will celebrate El Dia de los Muertos, a centuries-old spiritual tradition practiced in Mexico and other Latino countries. El Dia de los Muertos marks the time of year when the continuity of life is observed, and the dead return to Earth for one day. Altars, or ofrendas, are constructed in homes and public places to honor individuals with things pleasing to the dead such as food, drinks, marigolds, salt and photographs. A community ofrenda will be on view at the museum from October 22 through November 4.
The event is being planned by the Nebraska Art Association Education Committee with assistance of community advisors and is made possible with generous support from the Wake Foundation, the Nebraska Arts Council and Pinnacle Bank.
