This directory information restriction is good until you notify the University to remove it, or until your graduation. Directory information already included in hard copy publications will be removed at the next printing of the hard copy publication.

Discrimination and Harassment

It is the policy of the University of Nebraska to administer all of its educational programs and related supporting services in a manner which does not discriminate because of an individual's race, color, gender, religion, national origin, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or political affiliation.

Any unwanted communication of a sexual nature, whether verbal, physical, written, or pictorial, which has the purpose or effect of intimidating the person receiving the communication, or any solicitation of sexual conduct of any nature when submission to or rejection of such contact is used as the basis for either implicitly or explicitly imposing favorable or adverse terms and conditions of academic standing constitutes sexual harassment and will not be condoned or tolerated.

Appropriate corrective action will be taken toward any student or employee who is found to have violated UNL's non-discrimination or sexual harassment policies. Further, UNL commits itself toward the assurance of non-retaliation toward the person suspecting or experiencing discrimination or sexual harassment.

If you suspect or experience discrimination or sexual harassment toward yourself or others, please keep records of specifics and report the conduct. If you do not feel comfortable telling the person to stop the behavior, or if the behavior does not cease once you have made the request that it do so, you may tell an administrator, professor or counselor. These individuals are then required to pass the information on to the people who can take corrective action. You may also contact the Office of Student Judicial Affairs, 106 Canfield Administration Building South, (402) 472-2021, the Office of Equity Access and Diversity Programs, 128 Canfield Administration Building North, (402) 472-3417, or the Director of the Office for Civil Rights, Department of Education, Washington, D.C. 20202. More information regarding discrimination, harassment and avenues available is posted on most bulletin boards in buildings throughout the UNL campus.

Full-time/Part-time Student Status

Undergraduates must be enrolled for at least twelve credit hours to be classified as full-time students. Courses with a grade of "I" (Incomplete) from a prior term cannot be used to determine full-time status for the current term.

Graduate students must be enrolled for at least nine credit hours to be classified as full-time students whether or not the student holds an assistantship. Graduate students must be admitted to a degree program in the Graduate College to be awarded federal financial aid.

With approval of the Dean of Graduate Studies, 1100 Seaton Hall, 1525 U St., students in the final semester of a masters degree program (thesis option) or candidates for doctoral degrees, registered for fewer than nine credit hours, may be granted full-time status if they are not employed more than twenty hours per week.

International students are to maintain full-time status.   NOTE: See Drop/Add.

Financial aid is awarded on the assumption that students enroll full-time each semester (minimum of twelve credits for undergraduates and nine credits for graduate students) unless otherwise indicated on the "Free Application for Federal Student Aid" (FAFSA). Enrollment status is determined for the purpose of financial aid by the number of credits in which each student is enrolled on the last day to add classes each semester (census date). Aid may be reduced or canceled if a student is not enrolled full-time on census date.

Students enrolled for six credit hours or less are excluded from health services unless they make special arrangements. They can either pay the non-subsidized service rates or pay the health services fee and pay the subsidized rates.

Health Insurance Program

All students registered for classes at UNL have access to the University Health Center. Students who pay the Health Center portion of the UPFF fee assessment have access to specialty services, are not charged for medical clinic visits, and are charged subsidized rates for other Health Center services. Students who do not pay the fee are charged non-subsidized rates for medical clinic and other services. Students registered for seven or more credit hours are automatically assessed the fee. Part-time students may pay the fee at the Health Center prior to using the services for the first time. The University encourages students to maintain adequate health insurance coverage throughout their enrollment at UNL.

International students registered for classes at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln are required to purchase health insurance and will be billed for coverage under the University’s student health insurance plan for each semester of enrollment. Because this insurance plan requires students to have access to the University Health Center, all international students who are enrolled in fewer than seven credit hours will also be assessed the Health Center portion of the UPFF to maintain this access. International students may obtain a waiver from purchasing the University’s student health insurance if they have proof of equivalent insurance benefits under another plan. Students must submit an English translation of their insurance plan for evaluation by the University Health Center Business Office, 15th and U St., Lincoln NE 68588-0618 by the 14th day of classes for the term. The last day for international students to waive UNL student health insurance for the First Semester is Friday, September 12, 2008.

Graduate research and teaching assistants may be eligible to have a portion of the student insurance premium paid on their behalf as a benefit of eligible assistant employment. The student insurance plan includes health and dental insurance and a pharmacy plan. Questions should be directed to the department that employs the graduate assistant.

For information about the Student Insurance Program, contact the University Health Center at (402) 472-7435.

NCard (Identification Card)

All students enrolling at UNL for the first time are required to obtain an NCard (identification card). There is a $20.00 fee for the issuance of this card. For new undergraduate students and all international students, the $20.00 fee for the NCard will appear on the Consolidated Billing Statement. All other new students will pay the $20.00 NCard fee when they are issued their NCard. To replace either a lost or damaged NCard, a fee of $20.00 will be assessed at the time of replacement. A $10.00 fee will be charged to replace a stolen card if accompanied by proof of theft, such as a police report or insurance claim form. To obtain the replacement card, go to the NCard Office in the Nebraska Union, Room 121 (City Campus), complete a replacement application form, and pay the replacement fee. Your NCard will be issued within a few minutes. To receive a replacement NCard, you must present one form of identification that bears a photograph of yourself. To correct a name or ID number, the student must first have the change recorded at Registration and Records, 107 Canfield Administration Building South. For more information on student identification cards, contact the NCard Office in the Nebraska Union, Room 121 (City Campus), (402) 472-7331. Residency

Establishing residency for tuition purposes is not automatic. Applications will be accepted 60 days prior to the first day of classes for the term for which residence is sought. The deadline to apply (including the submission of all support documentation) is the end of the third week of classes.

Note: "College Independent Study" courses do not apply toward residency or full-time status.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Inter-campus and Joint Registration (Financial Aid). Students who will be jointly registered at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) and UNL or the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) and UNL, will be funded for financial aid by the institution at which they are originally enrolled and are pursuing a degree.

If a student enrolls for all credits on one campus through an inter-campus registration, that campus is responsible for providing financial aid to the student. For example, if a student receiving a degree from UNL enrolls for six credit hours at UNL and six credit hours at UNO, UNL would fund that student. If that same student took all credits at UNO, UNO is responsible for providing financial aid. This applies to students enrolled in Engineering, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Public Administration and other majors offered at UNL and UNO. Students considering inter-campus enrollment who have federal financial aid should check with the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, 17 Canfield Administration Building South, (402) 472-2030, prior to enrolling.

Satisfactory Progress for Financial Aid. In order to receive financial assistance, you must be enrolled or accepted for enrollment in an eligible program and attend on at least a half-time basis.

Satisfactory progress for the purposes of receiving financial assistance is defined on the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid web site, www.unl.edu/scholfa. It is your responsibility to understand the University's policy regarding satisfactory academic progress for financial aid recipients.

If, after the last day to add classes (census date) in each term, you decide to drop a course or courses and/or withdraw from the University, it is highly recommended that you contact the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid, 17 Canfield Administration Building South, (402) 472-2030, before you act to discuss the possible need for repayment of federal aid and your eligibility for subsequent aid in future semesters.

Senior Learning Passport Program

The Senior Learning Passport Program is available to individuals who are at least 65 years of age. Senior learners may attend undergraduate courses (courses numbered 100 - 499) on a space available basis and with the instructor's permission. The Learning Passport may be used for up to two classes per semester and is valid for one year from the date of the non-refundable $25 fee payment. For more information, contact the office of the Bursar, 121 Canfield Administration Building North, PO Box 880412, Lincoln, NE 68588-0412, (402) 472-1734.

Visiting Students

If you are a visiting student, you must apply for admission each term. Any student denied admission as a degree-seeking student is not eligible to apply for admission as a visiting student. Registration is limited to six hours per semester. The Division of General Studies, 33 Canfield Administration Building North, serves as the college dean's office for visiting students and intercampus students. Visiting students are ineligible to receive federal financial assistance.
