Graduate College Ceremony Information

Commencement Participation

A special change in the graduation ceremonies for Graduate College students this year includes the Graduate College commencement exercises in the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony. This means all graduate degree candidates will receive both their academic hood and University of Nebraska diploma in a Graduate College Commencement ceremony Friday, December 18th, 2009, at 3:00 p.m. in the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Graduate College students will NOT be included in the general University Commencement on Saturday, December 19th. Commencement participation is not required in order to graduate but is highly encouraged. Participation means attending the Commencement ceremony in academic costume, marching in the processional and recessional, and going forward to the stage to receive your diploma from your Dean. Students who participate in the Commencement ceremony are expected to be present throughout the entire ceremony.

Registration and Records will mail information regarding instructions for the commencement ceremony to all degree candidates approximately four (4) weeks prior to graduation. You must advise us of your plans concerning participation so that seating and diploma arrangements can be made. For more information, please contact Graduation Services, 109 Canfield Administration Building, (402) 472-3636.

Academic Costume

All Graduate College participants are required to wear academic regalia at Commencement. Doctoral graduates will receive their academic hood during the ceremony.

You may order caps, gowns, hoods, and graduation announcements in person or by mail from the University Bookstore, General Merchandising Area, Lower Level, Nebraska Union on City Campus.

Admission Tickets

There is plenty of available seating so no tickets are required for this event. Your guests should be seated in the Bob Devaney Sports Center by 3:00 p.m.

Parking

Parking for the ceremony is available in the State Fair grounds. Please allow plenty of time to park and arrive at the staging area no later than 2:00 p.m.

Graduating Students with Disabilities

Those using wheelchairs, crutches, etc. are welcome to participate in the Friday ceremony and should notify us several days before Commencement to allow time to establish reasonable accommodations. Please report any special needs to Dr. Roger Mandigo, Head Marshal, at 472-6456. He will advise you regarding procedures to be followed.
